Beautiful and brainy Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria-Parker has signed on to executive produce a documentary film about migrant children who pick produce for slave wages, according to Entertainment Weekly.
The film, called Harvest, will be made by nonprofit film company Shine Global, which was nominated for an Oscar for the 2007 documentary War Dance.
Longoria, a native of Texas, is well-known for her work on behalf of children, and for her association with the United Farm Workers and the Mexican American Legal Defense Fund.
We know how hard it has been for Mrs. Longoria-Parker to find support in Hollywood for her film ideas (her excellent feature project Deep in the Heart of Texas was put on ice when ignorant executives had a hard time believing a Mexican American female character from Texas could be wealthy and spoiled).
We are please to see that Mrs. Longoria-Parker keeps plugging away to raise awareness of the diversity among American Latinos, and the injustices faced by migrant kids. Kudos, Eva!
